What to Expect at Birdie's Tattoo: Your Guide to a Great Tattoo Experience
Getting a tattoo is exciting. Whether it's your first tattoo or your fiftieth, knowing what to expect can make the experience even better.
At Birdie's Tattoo, we've built our studio around a simple idea: getting tattooed should be comfortable, collaborative, and memorable. From your first consultation to your final aftercare instructions, our goal is to make the process easy and enjoyable.
If you're thinking about booking an appointment, here's exactly what you can expect when you visit Birdie's Tattoo in East Nashville.
First Things First: We Want You to Feel Welcome
Let's be honest: tattoo shops can feel intimidating.
That's why we created Birdie's differently.
We've designed a space that feels more like a creative studio or art gallery than a traditional tattoo shop. Whether you're covered in tattoos or walking in for your very first one, you'll be greeted by friendly staff and artists who genuinely want to help bring your idea to life.
No gatekeeping. No attitude. No pressure.
Just talented artists, great conversations, and top-shelf tattoos.
Before Your Appointment
Many tattoos begin with a consultation.
During a consultation, we'll discuss:
Your tattoo idea
Size and placement
Style and references
Color or black and gray
Budget and timeline
Any questions you have about the process
Our artists love collaborating with clients and helping refine ideas. Sometimes a small adjustment can make a tattoo stronger, more readable, and longer-lasting.
If you're not exactly sure what you want, that's okay too. We'll help you figure it out.
Finding Birdie's Tattoo
Birdie's Tattoo is located in the heart of East Nashville.
Parking is easy, with two hour free parking available both in front of the building on Gallatin and across the street. Parking can be validated at the shop, making your visit even more convenient.
Once you arrive, look for the Birdie's sign and head up to the studio. We are on the second level around the back of the building.
Our team will get you checked in and ready for your appointment.
When You Arrive
When you arrive for your appointment, we'll start by reviewing your design and making sure everything looks exactly how you want it.
This is your tattoo, and we want you to feel completely confident before we begin.
We'll review:
Placement
Size
Design details
Any final adjustments
Don't be afraid to ask questions or request changes. We want you to love your tattoo—not just today, but for years to come.
The Tattoo Process
Once everything is approved, your artist will prepare their station and apply the stencil.
You'll have an opportunity to look at the stencil in a mirror and confirm the placement before tattooing begins.
After that, it's time to get tattooed.
Depending on the size and complexity of your piece, your appointment may last anywhere from under an hour to several hours.
Throughout the session, your artist will check in with you, answer questions, and make sure you're comfortable.
We believe getting tattooed should be a collaborative experience—not something that happens to you.
What If It's My First Tattoo?
You're in good company.
Many of our clients are getting their first tattoo, and we love helping people through the process.
If you're nervous, that's completely normal.
We'll explain everything before we begin, including:
What the tattoo process feels like
How long it will take
How to care for your tattoo afterward
What to expect during healing
Our goal is to make sure you leave feeling excited—not overwhelmed.
Hygiene and Safety
Nothing is more important than a clean, professional tattoo environment.
At Birdie's Tattoo, we maintain strict sanitation standards and follow all applicable health and safety requirements.
Our artists use professional-grade equipment and follow proper sterilization and safety protocols to help ensure a safe tattoo experience.
If you ever have questions about safety or sanitation, we're happy to answer them.
Aftercare: Protecting Your New Tattoo
Once your tattoo is complete, your artist will walk you through aftercare instructions.
Following these instructions is one of the most important things you can do to help your tattoo heal properly and look great long-term.
We'll explain:
How to clean your tattoo
Recommended healing products
What activities to avoid
How long healing typically takes
Signs of normal healing
You'll leave with clear instructions and the confidence to care for your new tattoo.
More Than Just Tattoos
One thing that makes Birdie's unique is the atmosphere.
We're passionate about creativity, music, art, and community. While you're here, you might discover local artwork, browse vinyl from local musicians, or simply enjoy spending time in a space built around creativity.
We believe getting a tattoo should be an experience you'll remember—not just an errand to cross off a list.
